Looking for a "Junior Dive Deck-hand"




Looking for a "Junior Dive Deck-hand" for a 6 month full-time contract, on a Live-on-board scuba diving boat. The boat is based in Singapore and currently travels on weekends to Indonesia and will also go to Malaysia (come April, 2011). Occasional commerical work is also carried out in Singaporean waters, during the weekdays.

We can teach you to be a Dive Master and you will learn all about boat craft, driving, welding and general repairs too.

Prefer someone who can live on the boat full time and speak and read english well. Ability to speak Indonesian and/or Malay would be an added advantage.

SHIPS ENGINEER /​ MED 1

Based in Port Douglas, a full time position exists for a Ships Engineer.​ Responsibilities include maintenance and repair of all machinery and equipment on board our modern fleet of vessels.​ The successful applicant will require a current Marine Engine Driver 1 qualification and have experience with Detroit, MTU & Cummins diesel engines.​ You would have to work well in a team environment and previous experience in the marine tourism industry would be an advantage.​

DECKHAND

A deck hand position exists on our vessels based out of Port Douglas.​ Responsibilities include operation of small craft and semi-submersible coral viewers including the delivery of reef interpretive commentary.​ The successful applicant will require minimum senior first aid and coxswains qualifications and be able to work well in a team environment.​ Prior experience in the Marine Tourism Industry and knowledge of the Great Barrier Reef would be an advantage.​

Job Description
Under the limited direction of the Regional Manager:

• Responsible for developing, coordinating and participating in the implementation of the marine and coastal conservation, management and educational programs in the north of the Pilbara Region.

• Coordinates the implementation of the Montebello / Barrow Islands Marine Conservation Reserves Management Plan.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four criteria. These should be addressed in no more than a total of four pages.

Please note all criteria are considered essential unless stated otherwise.

1. Demonstrated experience in marine conservation estate management. This includes developing and coordinating work plans and strategies; education, enforcement, research and the monitoring of marine operations; familiarity with the principles of planning in the marine environment and having knowledge of marine, coastal and island ecology.

2. Demonstrated experience and effective skills in managing and leading a team.

3. Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining positive relationships with external organisations, key stakeholders, industry, indigenous groups, community interest groups and the media.

4. Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of administrative and financial management; including budget preparation, expenditure control and preparing and project management.

The following criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process. Desirable criteria will be assessed as required.

5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; including demonstrated proficiency in using computer software (including word, Excel, GPS, and GIS software) and in correspondence, report writing and developing and delivering presentations.

6. Tertiary qualifications in marine or natural sciences or natural resource management, natural sciences or equivalent qualification.

7. Demonstrated experience in working on and skippering small boats with a preference for a Certificate of competency – Coxswain (unrestricted) or higher boat handling qualification.

8. Hold an approved Rescue Diver SCUBA diving qualification or equivalent, a Senior First Aid Certificate, a qualification to administer oxygen resuscitation or therapy or demonstrate an ability to obtain these qualifications; be able to attain a professional dive medical (AS2299.2) annually; be willing and able to undertake diving activities for the department.

9. Ability and willingness to travel in remote locations, work away from home for extended periods and camp when required.

10. Willingness and ability to undertake a designated role in the department’s Incident Control System.

11. Understanding of occupational safety and health, and equity and diversity principles and practices.

12. Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.

DESIRABLE

13. Experience in applying legislation in marine management preferably the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 and the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 and related regulations and procedures.

The Dive Bus is a small, busy and popular PADI dive center, based in Curacao, Southern Caribbean.

We’ve just moved to a much bigger location and are looking for a PADI instructor who’s willing and able to learn about and help in any and all aspects of working in our growing dive shop. This is a great opportunity for an Instructor looking to run their own dive shop in the future. Immediate start, 3 months initially with the possibility of extending.

The ideal instructor will have lots of initiative, a friendly, outgoing personality and outstanding customer-service skills. A positive and willing attitude is more important than previous experience ( cert-counters and prima donnas need not apply). Additional skills such as administration, mechanics and/or carpentry are a huge bonus.

In addition to the above, the ideal instructor MUST:
• be current, renewed and insured
• speak and write fluent English; Dutch and/or Spanish is a bonus
• be minimum 23 years old
• hold a clean, valid drivers license, be experienced and comfortable driving a 15 passenger vehicle
• have checked out The Dive Bus website (www.the-dive-bus.com) and have a good understanding of what The Dive Bus is and does

Priority will be given to Dutch / Antillean applicants already living/working in the former Netherlands Antilles.
