SUMMER DIVEMASTER GUIDE NEEDED in BAJA MEXICO




Where: Palapas Ventana in southern Baja near La Paz. We are a small bed and breakfast geared at SCUBA, snorkeling, spearfishing, kayaking, sailing, Mexican cultural experiences, education groups, and fun. See http://www.palapasventana.com/

Job Description: Lead SCUBA dives, teach some certification classes if you are an instructor (bonus but not mandatory). Help our Local Captain lead spearfishing and fishing excursions. Help in restaurant and bar some evenings, help clients with kayaks and sailboats. Lead groups of high school and college students through marine science programs during educational trips. Help run La Paz World Cup and Baja Shootout spearfishing tournaments. Occasionally lead excursions for exploring waterfalls, hiking, and surfing. When not busy with clients do maintenance projects on facility, panga, and dive gear. Spearfishing clients make up 60% of our summer business.

Schedule: Based on the activities of the clients and their schedule. Days off will be scheduled around clients needs and will be 1day off (equivalent of Sunday) and 1 day 2 hours shorter (equivalent of Saturday) for every 5 days worked. Example: If we work 10 days straight with clients, you get 2 days off and 2 work days that end at 1 pm. During non client times maintenance schedule is M-F 7am – 3pm and SA 7am -1pm with Sunday off.

Pay: Housing provided plus breakfast and lunch on work days and dinner when only when restaurant is serving. $400 a month + tips and $200 travel stipend.Tips range from $100 – $400 a month. Your expenses while here will be minimal. 10% commission will be given on all new client bookings that you refer.

Qualifications: Dive master certified, Instructor a plus, working knowledge of spearfishing. Basic Spanish, maintenance skills and a can do attitude. Sailing and life guarding experience a plus.

Other: For fully enjoying your days off, having your own car would be nice. For every day life no car is necessary. Working at Palapas Ventana is like being in an intensive language program – our working language is Spanish.

Marine Expedition Leader
Applicants should have experience of people manage- ment and have good organisational and communication skills. A minimum of PADI OWI & EFR instructor. Also RYA level 1 boat handling qualification or handling experience is required. Experience in maintaining dive equipment and boats is a plus!

Chief Scientist - Marine
Applicants should be experienced in tropical coastal research and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would be preferred. A dive qualification, minimum of PADI Open Water diver (or equivalent) is required.

Assistant Scientist - Marine
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a biological or environmental science. Expedition experience and presentation experience is desirable. A dive qualification, PADI Open Water diver (or equivalent) is required. The role involves autonomous work and the ability to help lead a team of inexperienced teams. Wilderness First Aid training is provided.

Dive Instructor
Applicants should be qualified to at least PADI Open Water Instructor and have experience of training divers. Boat handling or RYA 1 is useful. Any understanding of servicing boat engines and compressors would be a plus!

Expedition Leader - Terrestrial
Applicants should have some expedition or trekking experience. Some presentation experience is desirable. The role involves autonomous work and the ability to help lead a team of inexperienced volunteers. Other useful skills would be: 4x4 vehicle experience, first aid and planning skills. Wilderness Medical Training is provided. In country logistics back up is also provided.

Chief Scientist - Terrestrial
Applicants should have a postgraduate degree in a zoological or conservation science. Data analysis skills are essential and experience of community development programmes is desirable. Job Summary

The WebMaster will be responsible for the management of the site, community, its interfaces with platform provider, ad servers, ad traffic and mechanics of advertising opportunities. They will Track and report on community engagement and interaction and ensures website is frequently refreshed, new and lively and relevant. Reports back, also tracks effectiveness of partnerships, online advertising, SEO, SEM, affiliate marketing, promotion, email marketing etc.

Responsibilities


o Manage the website and broadband TV feed, ensuring limited or no downtime
o Liaise with and manage third party suppliers including all website administration and registration.
o Advise on improvements and new developments which would enrich the consumer experience
o Advise and make recommendation on the latest trends in internet TV and website
o Ensure all SEO tools are optimally used
o Ensure the ‘look and feel’ of the site is consistent with the design guidelines developed in association with the Marketing Director.
o Manage (possibly moderate) the social functions of the site (including forums, blogs, email, YouDive UGC, and other social contact tools which you might help develop)
o Use and enhance a content management platform for the website, driven by business requirements.
o Perform maintenance of website on an ad hoc basis
o Assess and manage costs for website enhancements and modifications
o Liaise with website builders/developers/hosts (based in Italy)
o Develop the creation of a comprehensive editorial and graphics layout for new sections and features of the site
o Form part of the team to evolve corporate brand guidelines to maximise the online customer experience
o Assess new standards, technologies and formulate recommendations to incorporate these within the internet infrastructure
o Maintenance or management all hardware including servers and switches
o Management of all server based services (e-mail, firewalls and other software)
o Complete backup and emergency recovery of all proprietary content on servers





Essential Qualifications/Experience/Skills Required

o Passionate about web 2.0 and its evolution in both television and social networking
o Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
o Experience of developing static and dynamic websites
o Understanding of the design and development of database solutions

The Online Commercial Sales Director will work closely with, and report to, the Managing Director. He / she will manage the commercial running of the company on a day to day basis and implement and manage the revenue generation process in order to meet company targets for growth and profitability.

He / she will be a self-starter with flair and initiative who knows how to make and execute sales, taking full responsibility for contacts and the execution necessary to generate budgeted income. The channel has both video advertising and website sales opportunities to maximize, together with myriad opportunities for revenue generation (including sponsorship, product placement etc)

Responsibilities

o Execute the business plan – revenue and costs. Plan, develop and implement the strategy in conjunction with the MD.
o Plan and implement sales / revenue generation process ensuring proper reporting and accounting in liaison with 3rd party ad sales for run of network.
o Build, lead and manage the ad sales team and sales channels (web, streamed video, product placement, sponsorship etc)

OWSI Needed For Teen Scuba/Sail Camp in Caribbean

Motivated, enthusiastic and energetic instructors needed for a live-aboard sailing and scuba summer camp for teenagers in the British Virgin Islands.

Join a team of 20 instructors who live with our students aboard 50-foot sailing vessels during three 3-week full time expeditions. We live aboard with our students in fairly cramped conditions full time so applicants must feel comfortable living with limited privacy in a “camping” type environment for long periods. Our season runs from run from June – August.
All applicants must be must be completely fluent in English (both spoken and written), physically fit and healthy. We do not hire smokers or heavy drinker as our environment does not support either. Although not a requirement, the ability to teach a range of specialties, some medical training and/or sailing experience would be a plus.

What's not included

NB It is a PADI requirement to have a full set of your own dive equipment to become an Instructor. Packages are available in retail dive shops locally.


Master Scuba Diver Trainer
If you are serious about a career as an Instructor, we highly recommend going on to do the Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) internship programme which normally runs for 2-6 weeks.

An MSDT is an Instructor with 5 specialties and at least 25 certifications (students you have taught and certified).

Initially you are taught how to conduct lessons in the specialty areas. Then you start the internship which allows you to work with the Instructor team, teaching all levels of courses. Gradually you are given more responsibility and in the final phase you will be independently teaching courses and may have the opportunity to earn your first paid commissions!

The basic MSDT programme is an additional £350 and includes:
