SUMMER DIVEMASTER GUIDE NEEDED in BAJA MEXICO

Job Description: Lead SCUBA dives, teach some certification classes if you are an instructor (bonus but not mandatory). Help our Local Captain lead spearfishing and fishing excursions. Help in restaurant and bar some evenings, help clients with kayaks and sailboats. Lead groups of high school and college students through marine science programs during educational trips. Help run La Paz World Cup and Baja Shootout spearfishing tournaments. Occasionally lead excursions for exploring waterfalls, hiking, and surfing. When not busy with clients do maintenance projects on facility, panga, and dive gear. Spearfishing clients make up 60% of our summer business.

Schedule: Based on the activities of the clients and their schedule. Days off will be scheduled around clients needs and will be 1day off (equivalent of Sunday) and 1 day 2 hours shorter (equivalent of Saturday) for every 5 days worked. Example: If we work 10 days straight with clients, you get 2 days off and 2 work days that end at 1 pm. During non client times maintenance schedule is M-F 7am – 3pm and SA 7am -1pm with Sunday off.

Pay: Housing provided plus breakfast and lunch on work days and dinner when only when restaurant is serving. $400 a month + tips and $200 travel stipend.Tips range from $100 – $400 a month. Your expenses while here will be minimal. 10% commission will be given on all new client bookings that you refer.

Qualifications: Dive master certified, Instructor a plus, working knowledge of spearfishing. Basic Spanish, maintenance skills and a can do attitude. Sailing and life guarding experience a plus.

Other: For fully enjoying your days off, having your own car would be nice. For every day life no car is necessary. Working at Palapas Ventana is like being in an intensive language program – our working language is Spanish.

Salary Package:
Level 16 – 24 ($267,351 to $337,110) which includes Private Practice Income Allowance, Professional Development Allowance, Head of Department Allowance and an annualised On-call payment. For a sessional appointee the package is ‘pro rata’ plus an additional $81.79 per session may be payable where the appointee has ongoing private practice costs. Salary sacrificing is available.

Job DescriptionThe Department of Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine at Fremantle Hospital is the State referral centre for hyperbaric medicine in Western Australia and has been operating since 1989. It is planned to move this centre to the new Fiona Stanley Hospital when it opens.Full-time or part-time (5 sessions per week) and opportunities exist to negotiate sessions within other specialties where the appointee holds appropriate specialist qualifications.
Essential Selection CriteriaSpecialist qualification registrable in Australia e.g. FANZCA, FACEM or similar; and a DipDHM or equivalent. Marine Expedition Leader
Applicants should have experience of people manage- ment and have good organisational and communication skills. A minimum of PADI OWI & EFR instructor. Also RYA level 1 boat handling qualification or handling experience is required. Experience in maintaining dive equipment and boats is a plus!

Chief Scientist - Marine
Applicants should be experienced in tropical coastal research and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would be preferred. A dive qualification, minimum of PADI Open Water diver (or equivalent) is required.

Assistant Scientist - Marine
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a biological or environmental science. Expedition experience and presentation experience is desirable. A dive qualification, PADI Open Water diver (or equivalent) is required. The role involves autonomous work and the ability to help lead a team of inexperienced teams. Wilderness First Aid training is provided.

Dive Instructor
Applicants should be qualified to at least PADI Open Water Instructor and have experience of training divers. Boat handling or RYA 1 is useful. Any understanding of servicing boat engines and compressors would be a plus!

Expedition Leader - Terrestrial
Applicants should have some expedition or trekking experience. Some presentation experience is desirable. The role involves autonomous work and the ability to help lead a team of inexperienced volunteers. Other useful skills would be: 4x4 vehicle experience, first aid and planning skills. Wilderness Medical Training is provided. In country logistics back up is also provided.

Chief Scientist - Terrestrial
Applicants should have a postgraduate degree in a zoological or conservation science. Data analysis skills are essential and experience of community development programmes is desirable. Other useful skills would be 4x4 vehicle experience, first aid and presentation skills. Expedition experience would be an advantage.

Dive InstructorsLive and work in one of the best diving locations in the world! We are looking for dive instructors who are capable of teaching and guiding divers of all ages and abilities. Red Sail Sports offers daily dive instruction including resort courses, full certification, specialty courses and instructor training. PADI Dive Instructor certification, current membership and insurance are required, with at least two years of instructor experience.


Beach/Watersports AssistantsWork outdoors on the beach assisting our guests with Waverunners, Sailboats, Kayaks, and all other watersports toys. Previous watersports certification and experience required. (Swimming, Lifeguarding, Sailing, Waverunners, Waterskiing).


Catamaran Captains And Crew MembersCalling all captains, crew members and stingray feeders! Catamaran Crew members will have the daily pleasure of working on one of our 63' catamarans. We offer day sails including lunch with a trip to world famous Stingray City and various snorkel stops. In addition, the catamarans sail in the early evening to catch the stunning Caribbean sunsets or on dinner sails.


Duties include (but are not limited to): assisting the captain in sailing the vessel, checking in and welcoming guests, performing briefings of the trip to guests on board, overseeing the snorkelers while in the water for any problems, serving food and beverages on board, inventory and general maintenance. Sailing certification and swimming experience are required.
